Almost half of the energy used in Afghanistan comes
from firewood. Most of the rest comes from gas, oil, and hydroelectricity.
There are dams and hydroelectric stations on the Kondoz, Kabul, Arghandab,
and Helmand rivers. The dams also store water for irrigation.
